San Diego - Rushing Grebes & more

San Diego County in sunny California is one of the most diversified location for wildlife spotting, including hundereds of birds (resident or migratory), mammals, gorgeous landscape and of course plants. San Diego is a nature photographer's perfect playground. During the year there are different locations on Lake Hodges to take photos from and different subjects, and I can help you achieve your goals especially if you are short on time. You can be a professional photographer or just someone who enjoys nature, you will depart with plenty photos from different areas of the County after our tour.

I offer single or multiple day tours around San Diego's best wildlife spots. These tours can be few hours or multiple days, one-on-one or small group. Best time to visit San Diego and see lots of birds and wildlife is the winter / early spring (November - March). Please email me to schedule a one-on-one outing.

Photographing the Rushing Grebes with the "Grebe Whisperer"

So you would like to photograph the rushing Grebes on the Lake? Come and head out on the lake with me as your guide in a comfortable, low to the water boat. Using a silent motor I will be able to get you closer to the wildlife without disturbing their natural behavior (ethical distance, of course). And when the lake is closed to boating, you can take a guided hike with me, photographing the Grebes and other wildlife from the shore.

Grebes are fascinating birds. Their unique matting behavior called "rushing" is one of the most photographed animal behaviors and San Diego in sunny California is home to over 600 Grebes. Rushing is when Grebes "walk on water" to find a mate, and it only lasts 5-7 seconds. Knowing what to listen for and what to look for before rushing happens is the key to that perfect shot!

Many of my clients have called me "the Grebe Whisperer", THE Guide - and yes, I can tell when and where they will be rushing. Contact me please to book a one-on-one guided tour (boat or shore, any time of the year). I can get you in the right spot at the right time to get the perfect shot. Cheers~~ Krisztina
