This is the ultimate Southern California Nature Photography tour. Join us around San Diego Area to photograph the rushing Grebes & other wildlife, and stunning landscapes. San Diego, CA is one of the most diversified locations for wildlife spotting, including over 200 species of birds (resident or migratory), mammals, gorgeous landscape and of course plants. San Diego is a nature photographer's perfect playground.

This Workshop is timed for Grebes courtship season. Western and Clark’s Grebes engage in a maneuver called rushing during the spring mating season, in which they sprint up to 66 feet (20 meters) across the water in coordinated groups of two or more in about seven seconds. They're the largest vertebrates with the ability to walk on water.

We will also cover other areas in San Diego County, like La Jolla shores for the gorgeous Brown Pelicans in their full breeding colors, nesting Brandt's Cormorants colony, sea lions with pups, seascapes and landscapes. A visit further down south and east San Diego will keep us busy with more wildlife photo opportunities. A list of species likely to be encountered and photographed is available, please email me for details.

Included: accomodation for 4 nights, breakfast, water for each day, 2 boat trips to photograph the Grebes (max 2 people in one boat - two guides with two boats), guiding and tuition, 7 total shooting sessions in the field around Southern California's best wildlife and landscape spots, introductory slideshow and presentation on Grebes courtship, so you are more prepared for THAT shot! Two professional local expert guides.

Not included: transportation, lunch, dinner, drinks, and tips.

Note: Some days there will be an option to ride with one of the guides in their car.

Photographing the Rushing Grebes with the "Grebe Whisperer"

Grebes are fascinating birds. Their unique matting behavior called "rushing" is one of the most photographed animal behaviors and San Diego in sunny California is home to over 600 Grebes. Rushing is when Grebes "walk on water" to find a mate, and it only lasts 5-7 seconds. Knowing what to listen for and what to look for before rushing happens is the key to that perfect shot!

Many of my clients have called me "the Grebe Whisperer" - and yes, I can tell when and where they will be rushing. Contact me to book a one-on-one guided tour (boat or shore).

I can get you in the right spot at the right time to get the perfect shot. to Cheers~~ Krisztina
